Description
The Carolina Wren is a stocky wren with a large head, short bill, bold white eyebrow, and bright reddish-brown plumage. They creep through dense vegetation and trees, foraging for insects, but remain secretive. The Carolina Wren measures about 5.5 inches in length and weighs about 0.74 ounces. They are found most in the southeastern United States, usually in pairs.
This Carolina Wren singing from its perch on a bare branch was photographed at the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville, Tennessee on 7-7-2022. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/5.6 PF VR lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/250 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1000. Cheekwood is a 55-acre public botanical garden established in 1960 and located on a historic estate, comprised of 13 individual gardens.
