Description
The California Sunflower (Helianthus californicus) is a species native to California and to Baja, capable of growing in a variety of habitats. It is a perennial plant with stems growing up to 10 feet tall. The flower heads have a fringe of golden yellow ray florets, each with a length of about inch, and a center filled with brown and yellow disc florets. The genus Helianthus is made up of about 70 species that are native to the Americas and both annual and perennial. Sunflowers are a member of the family Asteraceae.
This California Sunflower was photographed at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, in Los Angeles, California on 6-26-2021. I used a Nikon D850 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens to capture this image. Settings: 1/3200 sec, f/6.3, ISO 1600.
I am honored that my photograph was featured in the Fine Art America groups:
